“If the other men enjoy several wives, why not me?”

In 2002 Brandon was a boy coming of age. Finally, after a lost childhood with a father leading him into cult life and a mother stricken with chronic personality disorder, there was something to look forward to before the looming Armageddon. Everything was on track until his 15-year old fiancée disappeared.

A bride wasn’t all Brandon lost in his first 30 years. It was only the beginning of a story nobody could have predicted for him. Despite such constant deception and excruciating heartbreak, he chose to strive for an unbreakable sense of peace.

Poison Into Medicine  wades through the swamp of a childhood spent in a doomsday cult. Through a corrupted baptism of mystery, manipulation and deception juxtaposing the emotionally harrowing with the heart-warming and sometimes humorous, Brandon Salo takes the reader on an awe-inspiring transformative journey from struggle to triumph.

The House of Yahweh

The House of Yahweh is a somewhat secretive group located just outside of Abilene Texas. Their sanctuary his hidden in the middle of a 44 acre plot of land that’s surrounded by a barbed wire fence. Guards maintain the entrance monitoring who enters and exits the compound. They claim to offer salvation through their particular teachings of a modified King James version bible. Their leader, Buffalo Bill Hawkins, known as Yisrayl Hawkins claims to be the last day’s witness, or prophet. As the chosen one, he has claimed that the end is near and thus far has had 6 failed claims to the end times. Like most cults, the House of Yahweh defends it’s false claims of the end times by continually discovering new information from the bible. In the 1990s, many people would leave the cult as a result of false prophecy, although many of those who stayed have raised their children in the cult, and are less likely to leave.

More information about the House of Yahweh can be found on Wikipedia.

The House of Yahweh Sells Salvation

As a member of the House of Yahweh, up to 30% of income before tax is require to donate, and most of the food its members are allowed to consume must be purchased from the institution. Reports from members who recently exited the cult have suggested that most people, including children are required to work long hours, 7 days a week for little to no monetary compensation.

The House of Yahweh Offers Brain Cleansing

When Brandon was 8 years old, he was taken to a child’s psychologist by his mother who divorced his father before entering the cult. After hours of attempted intervention, the doctor’s diagnosis was that Brandon had been Brainwashed.

In response to the claim made by a healthcare professional, the elders had convinced his father that his son hadn’t been brainwashed, but rather brain cleansed, and that he was now closer to holiness as a result of not saying the names of pagan Gods and staying away from unclean food.

Local Support for the House of Yahweh

Throughout the years, many mysterious deaths and crimes have been committed throughout the area. On several accounts of bodies being found by the local authorities, the conclusion of death has often been made on the spot, with little or no further investigation despite further testimony presented to the police.

Yisrayl Hawkins has been said to have a financial worth of hundreds of millions of dollars. Such wealth is accredited to his involvement in real estate, a local insurance company where many of the House of Yahweh members work, and most likely as a share holder in the companies that produce the products that the House of Yahweh members are required to buy. These products include a very well known brand of essential oils, and fringe health care and bodily cleansing products that are also marketed to religious groups around the country, in particular, the Mormon Church.

The House of Yahweh Could Potentially Implode

Like any institution that funnels money and power to the top of its hierarchy, when the leader disappears, there will always be a power vacuum and those eager to take the throne.

Yisrayl Hawkins is approaching the end of his life, as he was born in 1934. Many of the other leaders in the House of Yahweh who have been their by his side have already died. However, two men who have stuck with him for decades are likely to be his predecessors. David Heimerman and Michael Sheets have played a significant role in the development of the House of Yahweh and stay close to his side likely to maintain and increase their power as the cult continues to change shape.

In order to prevent a massive implosion, the followers will need to be convinced yet once again that new information was found in the bible and that the end times might not be now, but is still just around the corner.

The greatest fear among all those who have escaped the House of Yahweh is that the group will eventually mass suicide as a final attempt for the leaders to cash in on their power.

It is left to the responsibility of local authorities to investigate the endless claims of child abuse, sexual abuse, polygamy, child slavery, domestic violence and psychological control presented by the many members who left and continue to leave the House of Yahweh.
